CAPTCHA not working in Windows web browsers
To the WebAssist team,
Yesterday (11/14/12) a customer brought to my attention that my contact form Captcha image was not working. She tried to contact me, but since she was using Windows and Internet Explorer, she could not. Since I develop on a Mac and use Safari, Firefox, and Google Chrome browsers for the Mac OS, I had no idea that this was an issue for roughly 50%-60% of my customer base. That's 50%-60% of potential customers that have been unable to send me an email because the Captcha would not display. I spent several hours last night trying to fix all of this but achieved only minimal success. It got to the point where the Captcha would display, but a page reload would make it disappear only to reappear after 5 or 6 page additional reloads.
How did I fix the problem? I didn't. I had to have two versions of my contact page, one for the Mac, contact.php, and one for Windows, contact_ie.php. I am using a PHP script to detect the browser and OS so I as to serve the right page. Windows users are getting a contact form WITHOUT the Captcha image while Mac users and other OS users are getting the contact page WITH the Captcha image.
This is NOT an acceptable situation as the contact form without the Captcha will be subject to the onslaught of automated bots that will no doubt start spamming me soon. What, if anything, can be done to enable better and consistent support for your Captcha system so that is works just as well in Windows browsers as it does in Mac browsers? I really need to fix this issue and not have resort to page switching based on the users browser and OS. Any help in getting this issue resolved will be much appreciated.
