DataBridge / DataAssist Password Encryption

Hey WA,

Trying to get my head around password encryption. I'm using DW CS6 on a MBP. Current version of DW CS6. Current version of DataBridge (109).

I'm creating a website with a customer area (for updating their details) and an administration area (for viewing customer details). Administration shouldn't be allowed to view the customer's password in the admin area (or view it in the MySQL Db) but should be able to update their details (without needing to update their password) or alternatively update their details and set a new password for them in the process.

I figure encryption is the best way to protect the password and when I'm configuring the fields (prior to creating the administration pages) I can easily tell DataBridge what field is the password and that I want it encrypted. The resulting 'update' page that is created includes a field for the password and a confirmation field and both are required for updating the page.

All that works if you (as an administrator) update the customer details including the password field. If you don't update the password the form is already decked out with the encrypted password and is subsequently too long for the validation rules that I've set (6 to 12 characters, at least 2 alpha and 2 numeric). If you leave the two fields blank the form won't submit because the password is required (even though I didn't specify this when configuring the fields.

What am I doing wrong? What have I missed here? Got any support or forum pages on the topic?
