Making images larger in Gallery

Please forgive me if this is addressed elsewhere I'm afraid I cannot find it.
I would like to have my images zoom larger when I click on a thumbnail inside one of my galleries. When I create a new gallery it seems to be resizing them smaller than what I want to upload and they are not as large as I want them to be when they appear in the lightbox. can this be changed? I am using them in the long product description.
