Testing this on a local system will not work unless you have installed and configured an SMTP server for sending the verification email.

You should be testing on the remote server.

only after clicking the link in the verification email will you be able to access the restricted page.

the error in the last screen shot means that the restricted page is a redirecting to a page that also has access restriction on it.

make sure that the access restriction behavior on the restricted page is set to redirect to a page that does not have restriction applied to it.

Hello Jason,

Thanks for your quick response.

I may be wrong but in the Create Email Message of Universal Email I clicked on the email icon and configured the mail and pearl SMTP with user authentication. I did subsequently receive an email with the verification link and was able to reach the restricted page after logging in without a problem. The problem arises when I change the email in the Userupdate page to test whether upon logging in and accessing restricted page will trigger a new verification link (the second email). The emailVerified database records changed to '0' but the second email using <?php echo $row_SecurityAssistpcms2users['UserEmail']; ?> will not send. As I try to access the same restricted page I get the error message captured in the images you see. It may well be down to the explanation you have given about the restricted page having access rule applied to it.

VerifiedUser restricts if <?php echo $_SESSION['SecurityAssist_UserID']; ?> = (I think this means the pages with VerifiedUser access rule restricts access to anyone logged in as Logged in to pcms2_users).
VerifiedUser allows if <?php echo $_SESSION['emailVerified']; ?> = 1
So effectively the user would need to have email verified to access pages with verifiedUser access rules.

Lastly, I take it that it would in any case be preferable to test this on a remote server and that I will do. I will also look at the restricted page and remove any previously applied access restrictions.
I will do that now and let you know the outcome.
