linking to dataassist created dynamic pages

I kind of new to this so bear with me
quick summary:
xampp up and running running (all testing done on this local server)
dynamic store designed with data assist set-up and running
static main website setup and running
links between all php pages (nav & buttons) work great
links between all php pages and html pages OK
all html links OK

? when I attempt to link from html nav to php store (ie href="xyzResults.php")either the testing server cannot display the page or the link is dead (nothing happens). I've used index.html and index.php pages - no difference.

I'm sure I'm missing something - like php or config code in the static files.
please help.
