Template ID based on Content Name instead of ID

Template ID based on Content Name instead of ID

I'm using a template to handle multiple pages.

Currently I can load those pages using an index number like:
template.php?mypages=1

I'd like to be able to load it with the "Content Name" (as defined when a new page is setup in a template in PowerCMS) - with the contentname being named in a querystring friendly way. What I'd like is something like:
template.php?mypages=contentname

My reason is that I'm setting up multiple sites and the ID's may not match up across the various sites and I'd like to reuse the navigation code I've setup.

My instinct is to have the template page process the variable (mypage = contentname), do a lookup in the PowerCMS database (contentname = 1 -> mypage = 1) - but I'm wondering if there is a simpler way.
