installation problem -- receiving blank page on logininfo.php

installation problem -- receiving blank page on logininfo.php

Bought PowerCMS an age ago and never installed it due to one-site restriction, but now have a use for it. Tried installing it.

Having problem that it insists that I have 'safe mode' on, which is not true.
Since it seems to pass the file read-write test OK, I tried changing the line:
$_SESSION['serverchecklist']['php_notsafemode'] = ini_get('safe_mode') ? false : true;

to make it true : true at the end and so to force it to proceed.

But then ... when it gets to 'loginfo.php' I get the dreaded blank page and a total stop. I examined that file, and it looks like PowerCMS is baulking at:
I am not seeing any such file so presumably it is not writing it.

When I restore the $_SESSION line back to 'false : true and reinstall, it again tells me that I am not passing safe mode test. This is not true because I run phpinfo.php, and safe mode is definitely off.

What am I missing, please, to get this to work?

Thanks very much for any help.

I am of course reluctant to try to "solve" this problem by buying PowerCMS builder in case that has the same issues.
