How do I retain form content on a failed validation

I have tried to do the 'Validation Show If' on my form page, and it works OK, but when I test it with an incorrect code to make sure it does show the failed validation message, all of the other form content disappears because the page is basically refreshed.

So, if I do use the Validation Show If on the form page, how do I get the form to retain the user entered content? Currently, I have a simple form, but if I use this on a complex form, I can see users getting fed up and moving off to another site, which is not good for business!

At the moment, I have removed the Validation and I redirect to a simple HTML page where I state the captcha code was entered incorrectly and they need to click here to do a history back -1. By doing this, I am able to retain the user entered content, but it's not particularly user friendly.

Thanks.
