Multiple Featured products in site

I am building a site that will have rentals and purchases.

I think I can accomplish this by setting up 2 categories then sub categories within each. I found a link in this forum that will allow me to add a "call for pricing" when the cost is set to $0 which is a big help.

The question I have is: Is it possible to have a "featured product pod" on the Rental landing page related to rentals and a "featured product pod" on the Purchase landing page related to products you can purchase?

Also, how many subcategories can I have under the main category?
