error connecting to db

No root user

i guess when you say 'root' you are talking about the privileged user of the database yes? the one who is granted all privs and even other grant privileges? we had that information for the localhost and was not able to get in to that one, but the more pressing issue is finding the files that can be used for the total install. I was able to take the files from a folder where i did have a successful install, and was able to run the install_cms scripts ok. But some of the files must not have transferred, or i have missing files, because the template for the admin area, or the css files are incomplete. I will run ftp uploads on which files i think are missing, and see if that can complete a successful install. it is more important at this juncture to get the remote up and running, than to worry about the localhost right now.
