javascript error

i got the thing working and was able to add content. but on the second page i want to put into cms i get the error

"while executing applyserverbehavior in wapcms_contentnode.htm, a javascript error occurred."

i immediately removed the cache dat file and restarted dw cs4 and saw the error again.
suggestions?
by the way i thought i had two connections, but now i have only one, although it is a duplicate of the one i thought i had originally. it looks correct though.
then when i wente to the remote site and to the admin area, i saw the content there. so now i am thinking the error was in the placing of the developer notes on my local copy of the file. to do that i must apparently have to do that manually, until this error is fixed???
on the other hand, perhaps i need to do some other thing i haven't yet discovered. more from the diary later.
