Inventory control in eCart5

I'm really struggling with this. I will crack it but am going to need more time and help.

While I work on the final auto solution I need to set up a temporary simple one. Please can you remind me how to set a recordset and show region using the inventory field:

IE when inventory = 0 the message "temporarily out of stock" appears.

I'm doing this on an item results page. I've created a new recordset called rsStock:

SELECT LampInventory
FROM Lamps
WHERE LampInventory = 0

I select the region with the message and tried "show region if recordset is empty" and "show region if recordset is not empty" (it always confuses me which to use) but both don't show the message when required (IE when inventory = 0). I've also tried $_GET['0'] etc in the variables.

The field in the database is Varchar 50, I tried Int. The page where it need to display the massage is a repeating region. Could either of these be the problem?

What am I doing wrong?
