eCart 5, dynamic shipping and static inventory?

Changed to flat rate

Hi, I'm really having trouble here. I changed to a flat rate shipping by adding an extra field to the database. I added a shipping price for each item. I then turned off the UPS shipping in the eCart and turned on a new formula for flat rates. I then uploaded all the changed WA databases in the folder.
I'm encountering 2 problems.
I go here inventory.php
and add one of the items to the cart (try one of the first 2 items). In the cart, none of the fields show for shipping or tax or subtotal. And then when I try to checkout, I am still being led back to the UPS shipping error message.
I have set the formula for shipping to Quantity of item 0 >0 and Total number of unique items in the cart
based on an item's column value
Item 0's FlatRateShipping plus 0

However, it isn't showing up. The php code for the shipping field is <?php echo WA_eCart_DisplayMoney($FTCLR, $FTCLR->GetShipping()); ?>

There should be an easier way to update cart behavior with the checkout wizard I would think, but it tries to create an entirely new cart. Also, I notice that the detail pages were not created for each item in the catalog. Am I missing something here?
Thanks
Jeff
