eCart 5 with Paypal Website Payment Standard

I am planning on using ecart5 with Paypal Standard for this eStore that has many physical goods all with different colors. I have cataloged the items into catagories that fit together. I like to find out how I can handle the color options. A lot of the items have different color to be selected, say one item's color option could be blue and red and another item color selection could be teal and purple. So if I set up a color selection input box in ecart, how can I show the colors in the selection input box that varry from item to item? The colors are in a database so I could dynamically do this but all the colors for each item are in one column using a comma to separate them.
I have looked for a help file on this throughout WebAssist website but haven't been able to find any.
Thank you
