adding product image problems

Please help, no one responded to my last post re same issue, im at a standstill, the documentation did not note any special handling of image uploads to admin page however when i try to upload images via Admin into products from browse image file was..
C:\Users\michael\Documents\design images\laptop.jpg
i recieve this error message...
Please enter a valid file (.gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .png)
after this did not work, i tried uploading the file to my images folder inside my file manager/cpanel and still recieve the same error. I am trying to set this site up for clients and im hoping they can simply upload their product images through the admin/product page but it seems im overlooking something. Please advise..thanks in advance..mike
