Last inserted id not working in email template

Last inserted id not working in email template

I am defining the last inserted id into a table with this: <?php $last_id = $InsertQuery->insert_id; ?> This is taking place AFTER the new record is inserted into the table.

However, this $last_id is not being carried over to the web assist email template.

I'm calling the field in my email template file, <?php echo $last_id; ?> but it's always coming through empty in the email. The record id column IS an Auto Increment field, and when a new record is entered, it is working properly.

Thank you.
