How difficult is it ti switch payment gateways

Hi All,

I have a client who is using PayPal standard for a payment gateway and would like to know how difficult it would be to switch to I have never used so I really don't know what is involved in switching from one payment gateway to another.

Can anyone explain the process of switching to a different gateway and the differences between the two, maybe provide a sample of the code used for as it pertains to the shopping cart form?

Am I better off rebuilding the cart with an payment gateway?
