paragraph spacing best practice

Hi there just a quick CSS question on best practice of paragraph spacing. and wanted to find out for the forum what everyone does?

ok so here goes currently my CSS for the P tag is:

margin: 1.5em 0;

this is causing a few issues when aligning an image so that both the top of the paragraph and top of the image arent not aligned.

alternative is to remove the margin and simply use <br> or <p>&nbsp;</p>

However I kind of feel that using the extra <br> and <p> tags to create spacing between paragraphs is sloppy coding.

Another way to fix my issue is in the div container that has my paragraphs in it I could add margin-top:-25px which will then align the top of the paragraph and top of the image.

Please can anyone give me their insights on best practice to create better code?
