I purchased CSS Suite, Dynamic Suite and PowerStore in the past few months? It irks me to hear this announcement after spending $560 on these products recently. I think waiving the subscription sign-up fee is a start, but I'm sure my feelings are similar to other customers when I say, "please sir, can I have more?"
Maybe waiving the full subscription fee for a few months or more? I don't think this is a matter of having your cake and eating it too. I think it's just a matter of good customer service and a great way to earn customer loyalty. (BTW your BestBuy example isn't great-- because they give refunds for the price difference)
