Following the detailed instructions is enough to make one dizzy. Have you guys ever heard of step-by-step instructions? Going from step one, to another document, to another document, and then back to the original and then to step two doesn't make much sense.  

I concur! I'm at the same exact point of frustration. I've been working with Dreamweaver since it's inception, so I'd like to think that I'm a fairly savvy user. Yet the instructions that you provide are absolutely maddening; opening up 15 documents in Acrobat takes up valuable desktop space and it's hard to keep track of the files when your PDFs are set to hide Acrobat's toolbar (not to mention, the code doesn't always match with the content in the PDF manuals). I feel like it's hard to just get a straight answer or clear instructions from the support files.
