Frequently Asked Questions
This FAQ helps answer some of the most common post sales questions regarding Surveyor. Each answer appears below its corresponding question.
Do I need the site defined locally to create a site map?
No. You have the option to create the site map from a live site by specifying a web address or from a local site by specifying the site folder.
How long does it take to create a site map?
This depends on the size of the site you are creating the site map for. If you are creating a site map for a local site, Surveyor does need that much time to create the site map.
How do I create a site map from my local site?
When the Surveyor XML Site Map wizard launches, select the "Select pages manually" option and choose where to save your XML file. Click Next, then choose the Add button and select "Get from file system". This will allow you to select the folder where your site is stored locally. After you choose your site folder, the list is populated with the pages in your site and you can add/delete any pages you desire.
Can I edit an XML site map that was previously generated by Surveyor?
Yes. In the Surveyor XML Site map wizard, choose "edit existing site map", and then browse to the XML file that was generated by Surveyor. On the next window, you are able to add/delete pages from the XML site map.
Is there a limitation to the number of pages that can be included?
Surveyor does not have a limitation on the number of pages included when creating a site map. However, there is a time and memory limit for processing the results.
A JavaScript error occurs when creating my site map.
If you are creating your site map based on your live website, the server may time out causing you to see a JavaScript error.
To resolve this, it is advised that you create your site map based on your website stored on your local machine.
Review the Creating an XML site map from your local site section of the Surveyor Getting Started Guide for instructions.
