Uploading Solution Pack Files
For all Solution Packs, you will want to upload all the files and folders that have been provided in the .zip file. Some Solution Packs require that you modify various files before uploading. If that is necessary, make sure you have completed those steps before proceeding with these instructions.
This How To demonstrates the process for uploading files using three different FTP applications. Choose the method that works best for you.
Within the Dreamweaver Files panel, you can upload all your files through FTP to your live server. Before you can do this, you will have to have configured the Remote Info settings within your defined site.
NOTE:If you are a Dreamweaver user, this is the FTP approach you'll probably find most convenient.
Define your Remote Site Settings
To use Dreamweaver's FTP settings, you first need to make sure the Remote Info for your defined site is set up correctly. For instructions on completing this task, refer to the Defining a Dynamic Site in Dreamweaver tutorial.
NOTE:The Defining a Dynamic Site in Dreamweaver tutorial will guide you through defining the Local, Remote, and Testing Server details for your site. For the purpose of uploading a Solution Pack, you only need to define the Local and Remote settings. Just skip the Testing Server steps if you like.
- Once your Local and Remote Info is defined, click Connect from the Files panel.
- Make sure Local view is selected from the second menu list.
- Select the root folder of your site.
The root folder will be listed above all other directories.
- Select the Put icon to upload everything selected.
Because the root folder is selected, everything within that folder will be uploaded.
The upload process will begin and a dialog will display the progress. You can confirm upload was succesful by choosing Remote view from the second menu list to see all the files that are on your Remote server.
NOTE:Uploading an entire Solution Pack can take some time. Ensure that all the files are uploaded before proceeding with using the product.
Using FileZilla on Windows
FileZilla is a free, reliable and secure FTP client for Windows machines. If you do not own Dreamweaver, or prefer a separate FTP client, you can download FileZilla from http://filezilla-project.org/download.php.
- Open FileZilla from the Windows Start menu > Programs.
- From the File menu, choose Site Manager.
- Click the New Site button to specify the details for accessing your server.
- In the General tab, enter the URL for your website's domain.
For example, mydomain.com
- In the Server type menu, leave FTP - File Transfer Protocol specified.
It is possible that you server required Secure FTP, in which case you would choose the SFTP option from the menu.
- Choose Normal from the Logontype menu.
- In the User field, enter the username for the FTP account.
- Enter the password in the password field.
NOTE:If you do not know the Username and Password for accessing your server, check with your hosting provider. Most hosting providers give you a Control Panel where you can manage your FTP accounts and create additional credentials.
- Click Connect when you are ready to connect to your server.
Once you successfully connect you should see all the files stored on your server. By default, this is likely to be empty or contain only a few files.
You may want to create a new folder to upload your Solution Pack. Although not required, you can do this by right-clicking in FileZilla and choosing Create directory.
- Open a Windows Explorer window, and locate your Solution Pack files.
If you have not already, you should unzip these files to a different location. Then locate the unzipped files for uploading.
- Press Ctrl + A to select all the files.
- Click and drag those files to the FileZilla window where you want those files uploaded.
This will initiate the upload process.
NOTE:Uploading an entire Solution Pack can take some time. Ensure that all the files are uploaded before proceeding with using the product.
The built-in FTP client with OSX only allows for downloading files form your web server. For this reason, we recommend using a very popular FTP client known as Transmit instead. You can obtain and install a version of Transmit from this address http://www.panic.com/transmit/.
- After installing, open Transmit, click Connect.
- Enter your domain in the Server field.
For example, mydomain.com
- Enter your User name.
- Enter your password.
- Click Connect.
-
Once Transmit connects to your server, you can drag any files you wish to the pane on the right hand side, either from the left hand pane, or from Finder.
You can create a new folder on your server to upload your Solution Pack. This is not required.
NOTE:Uploading an entire Solution Pack can take some time. Ensure that all the files are uploaded before proceeding with using the product.
What to do next...
Once all the Solution Pack files have uploaded, your should proceed with the product's Getting Started Guide for the next step. Most Solution Packs are ready to start running in your browser as soon as they are uploaded.
