Is DA supposed to auto-populate form to DB relationships?

Is DA supposed to auto-populate form to DB relationships? - RESOLVED

If you look at DW's approach to inserting a record from a form, if form inputs use a name similar to the database table column name, it will automatically match up the fields to insert the form into.

Is DA supposed to also do this or does it require a manual process for matching database table fields to the form inputs?

The initial auto generated version might need some tweaking. I'd recommend double clicking on either the DA Insert or Update record behaviors for your page to make sure that your data is being sent to the correct table fields.

If you use the DataAssist Wizard to create the page, it will match the form fields with the correct database column.

If you are adding the Insert record Behavior to the page manually, then you will need to manually bind the database columns to the form fields.

To bind the database column, select it in the list and click the Lightning bolt next to value. Expand the Form Collection in the Dynamic Data binding window and select the corresponding form element.

Yes, I was using the manual mode to insert the record based on a form builder form for registering. Or at least I think I was. I clicked on Data Assist -> Insert ->Single Record Insert for the registration page which showed a wizard but none of the fields were matched up. I figured out how to do it manually, but was wondering if it functioned like the standard DW insert record behavior which automatically matches up fields in the table with the form input fields. So Data Assist doesn't function that way unless I use Data Assist to create a page? Does this mean a page from scratch using DA or will it always be a manual process if not using DA to create the page?

thanks,

steve

If you manually add the server behavior to the page, you will need to match the fields up your self.

If you use the DataAssist wizard (The data assist wizard creates the Insert, Update, Delete, Search and Results Pages) it will match the form elements to the database columns for you when creating the page.
