Remove <p> tags

I found on on the forum how to change to <br />, but is it possible to remove the beginning <p> and ending </p>.
My page has <p class="main-text"><?php echo $row_Content['home_maincontent']; ?></p> and the extra <p></p> are messing with the formatting.

Thanks, I did see your post a earlier and did that. It changed the middle paragraph close and opens to br / but did not remove the beginning and ending.
Is it possible to remove them?

prevent P tags from being added at the beginning and end of new content areas, it wont remove the p tags from existing content areas, you will need to do that manually by switching the editor to source mode and deleting the p tags.
