Associating Testing Server with Remote Server

Hello all,

I'm a little green with databases so thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

Yesterday I downloaded XAMPP for the first time. I was successful creating my localhost test server as well as my remote ftp connection.

My question is... How do I connect my local MySQL database with the database I setup with my hosting provider? I have my datasource string information to plugin to code, but I don't know where to plug the datasource string into. Does XAMPP have a place for me to do this? Once this is plugged in, will all "Put" activity in Dreamweaver that involves the database automatically move changes from my localhost into production?

Thank you very much for your time,
--Justin

you local testing server database and the live database are 2 separate entities and are not connected.

your local testing server will not contain the same data as the live server. the idea is that you test the pages on your local site using dummy data, then upload the pages to the live site where the live data is.
