Power Gallery Stopped Working

I have been using this application on the following web site for a number of months. My client has now loaded a number of images as he is a travel photographer.

I keep get a 500 internal server error, the host provider assures me that everything is alright at their end and that the my sql database is working correctly, so I am at a loss.

Could you help me. The website is www.nomadicmonkimages.com if you click to Wildlife on homepage then select a category say "Birds" the image gallery fails to load. If you need any more info pleas let me know.

I do have a backup of the database but would appreciate any assistance to restore procedure as i am not very confident in this area.

- I have received a comment from host provider who says that the database is fine the error is the timing out which suggests something else.

- I have uploaded a new database and site to test at www.sancere.com and am getting same issue - I only have 7 images on this site. If you click on Homepage "latest images" and this times out with a 500 internal sever error
Could you please help.

Update from Host Provider

This post has been deleted.

How many total images are in the galleries (all of the galleries together). Have you tried removing some of the images from the galleries using the admin pages to see if the number of images is causing the issue?

Did the hosting provider check the error log on the server for the error message that caused the 500 error?

Jimmy,

Thanks for your response.

1) The www.sancere.com site that I have used to replicate the issue only contains 7 images the page is photo1.php (home page "latest images", link) and this is showing the same issue.

2) I will try and get a copy of the error log from the host provider today and forward to you

3) Could you also explain where the images are stored and in which directory as I have tried to look for these, are they compressed ?

4) Is there a limit to how many images can be stored so that I can advise my client?

Is that test page using the same install of PowerGallery and different database or is it using the same install and same database?

The images are stored in the images directory. There should be a different directory in the images directory for each of the different galleries.

When you installed the gallery, did you make any modifications to the files or did you use the default ones?

The idea was to set up a fresh install on www.sancere to see if I could replicate the issue I was having on www.nomadicmonkimages. The result were that the same error was occurrring, these two domains sit on the same hosting server.

The www.sancere test site uses a different database, but the newer version 1.1 install of powergallery. When I installed to this site I did not make any modifications. I just did a fresh load of some different images a smaller qty) but only using one page photo1.php. I did not make any modifications to the files, using the default ones, but got the same issue.

I have just recieved this reply from Fasthosts the hosting company

Dear Peter,

Our engineers have not been able to identify any issues with PHP on the server that hosts sancere.com. The issue appears to be with the photo1.php page or a file that is trying to include.

All PHP scripts need to execute within 30 seconds or they will time out, as photo1.php is taking longer than this you are getting a 500 error.

You should look to reduce the amount of information that the page is trying to load to reduce the execution time.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us

Best Regards,

Fasthosts Customer Support
Fasthosts Internet Ltd.

I have escalated this to fasthosts , and spoken to the manager, he has looked at the script and suggests the issue is around the "global.php" file where the script is timing out. I am really getting desperate as the site has been down now for over 4 days and customer is getting impatient.

Could this be a license issue? product on www.nomadicmonkimages.com uses version 1.0 - downloaded on 30/12/2009) but dont understand why this was working before? I am really at a loss.

I have also tried to reduce number of images on www.nomadicmonkimages.com this is not the issue. Looks like the php pages are just not firing up! PLEASE PLEASE CAN YOU HELP
