Record copy in DA?

Hi,

I'm using DA to recreate a site built in another php generator that has a copy record function. The client wants this functionality. My thoughts on this are that I can create a DA insert form, pass the primary key of the record to be copied, use that primary key to filter a recordset that contains the data to be copied to the new record from the one selected and use those dynamic values to populate the insert form fields with the values of the existing record. Obviously, the primary key can only be used to filter the recordset.

Does this sound like a plan? If not, are there easier (better) ways to copy records with DA or other WA tools?

This may also be a request for the next version of DA, which I love working with. If the above plan works it should be fairly simple to add to DA as an option when generating the code.

Thanks for any help on this,

Tony

Yes, your method should for for duplicating a record.

I will add a feature request so this can be considered for a future version of DataAssist.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I think this would be an easy addition to DA and would really be a huge help. I think it should be setup as an option in the results setup page. If selected then a copy image appears in each row that opens the insert page with all of the fields values passed (except the pk). In fact, if you really want to make it functional, provide a step 2 of the results setup so that if the copy option is selected we can choose which fields to include in the copy. That would be killer! Sometimes you don't want all the fields.

Anyway, hope you can work this out. Also, as a request, I've been playing with JQGrid (blog/). Any chance you guys can integrate the open source version of these grids as the primary results pages, including options for the great functionality of these grids? I'm hooked on jquery and it would be great to have a WA/Jquery bunch of extensions that really work!

Thanks again,

Tony
