Gmail Google Apps with Universal Email

Gmail Google Apps with Universal Email

We are currently using Google apps for our email. I had to point the MX record to Google for us to use Google apps. IiInstalled and configured universal email with my page, however, the email is not being sent. Could the issue be with my MX record and Google? I'm leaving the smtp field blank.

When you are using an external SMTP you will need to authenticate in order to send out the mail most of the time. In Universal Email you need to use the PEAR mail option in order to provide authentication details to the server. In order to use this for emailing you must have PEAR installed on your php server. When you configure the server behavior you will need to provide the path the the PEAR folder on your server so it can find the mail module.

Same Issue - no solution?

My client too is using gmail through Google Apps, and I have the hosts DNS updated - everything is working perfectly.

I've used UE for years with no problem - works well every time, but I can't finde this solution.

Gmail requires SMTP Authentification, the only way UE can send that is by selecting the PEAR option - but no pear directory can be found in association with gmail. How can I include the username / password - or, what is the work around?

I'm using simple forms, collecting information from the website - to be sent to individuals on the same url.

Thanks

The Pear directory is not in association with gmail, it is a directory on your hosts server where pear is installed. Talk to your host to determine if Pear is supported and what the path to pear is.

set the smtp server to:
ssl://smtp.gmail.com

use 465 for the prot

user your gmail address for the user name and the gmail password for the password.

Google Apps/Universal Email Solution on Bluehost

After struggling for a long time to get this working through PEAR on a Bluehost server, I found a very simple solution that worked. So for anyone else struggling (and for myself if I forget): In the Create Email Message: Mail Object Settings:

Email object: mail
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
Org (not required)
X-Mailer: (leave blank)
Include from address using additional parameters: CHECK THIS and M=make sure the "From" address is a gmail address
