installation and activation errors

installation and activation errors

I purchased a library subscription yesterday and downloaded upgrades to a number of my, already purchased, extensions. After installing 2 of them I got errors in dreamweaver (CS3) and on starting Dreamweaver found all my extensions had disappeared from the menu bar. I deleted the windat file to no avail and then deleted the config file which fixed the missing inser bar icons problem. I then had a dreamweaver start up file error due to memento and managed to find 2 legacy memento files which I deleted to fix that. I started again - this time I ended up with javascript errors in dreamweaver and extensions wouldn't uninstall or install - I ended up having to delete the config folder again. I started again. This time I decided to load one extension at a time. I got an error saying that the installer file is invalid for Dreamweaver tools for google so abandoned that. Then installed site assist. It installed but I got an activation error 400.

I have now spent 2 days trying to sort out installations and now have no webassist products working at all for a considerable financial commitment. Is there a specific order these products have to be installed in? The time is takes for installation is considerable and I seem to be going round in circles. Sorry for the rant but it really is frustrating. Have you any ideas on how I can sort this out? the error 400 told me to raise a support ticket but I can't seem to find where to do that althhough by now I may be too tired to see properly. Any help appreciated.

You don't say what OS you're using but the method that works for me is:

  1. Make sure that DW is closed.
  2. Remove the old version of the extension. (critical).
  3. Download the latest version if necessary (never assume what you downloaded last week is the latest).
  4. Check for known issues in your download area.
  5. Install new extension.
  6. Click "Yes to all" for duplicates.
  7. Clear the cache to make sure DW creates a new one for the new extension.
  8. Start DW and activate the new extension.
  9. Repeat starting at 1 for each new extension.

I try to install eCart after the other extensions.

Sounds like you should delete the config folder to be safe.

If you can't get it resolved here, someone from WA will open a ticket for you when they get back from the weekend. You can clear your activations in you account area if that becomes necessary.
