menu on page isn't same as menu in properties window

menu on page isn't same as menu in properties window

I have an eight button horizontal menu on my page, but when I click into the properties for that menu, in DW 8.0.2, it only shows three buttons:

contact-violin-shop-hexham.asp

I've built, deleted, rebuilt, re-deleted, rebuilt...etc, this menu so many times that I think I'll go "spare" if I have to do it again. Can anyone see why this might be happening?

When I open menu.asp, it's showing the eight items, so I really can't work out what's wrong.

Hope someone can help. Thanks.
Regards
Nath.

are you editing the menu or adding a new one?

How are you reentering the CSS Menu Writer Wizard?

Are you Reentering the CSS Menu Writer Wizard by going to Insert -> WebAssist -> CSS Menu Writer

Or are you reentering the wizard by clicking the edit button in the property inspector?

editing...

I'm editing the menu Jason.

I had a problem, previously, whereby I wasn't clicking the "script" symbol before entering the CSS Menu Writer properties but I resolved that with one of your support colleagues.

So, now, I'm basically clicking on the script symbol on the page and selecting either Edit Contents or Edit Menu. Neither option brings up a menu with 8 options, just a 3 option menu.

It has me completely baffled because, as I say, when I open up menu.asp there are 8 bulleted items in there.

the menu structure is stored in the CSSMenuWriter/cssmw/treexml.xml file.

When you edit a menu, it will look at the structure that is stored in this file.

If I browse to:
treexml.xml

I see only the three menu items you are referencing.

Are you adding the other menu items by hand? If so, the treexml.xml file will not be updated to contain them, you need to use the Men Writer Wizard to create the tree structure.

If you are not adding them by hand, and are already using the wizard to create the tree structure, make sure the treexml.xml file is not set to read only. Or if you have File Check in Check out turned on in Dreamweaver, make sure to checkout the treexml.xml file so the menu structure can be saved.

hand editing

Hi Jason,

I could well have edited the bulleted list by hand, sorry. I just assumed that I could hand code that as, using DW 8.0.2, the CSS Menu Writer wizard is unbearably slow.

Thanks for the assitance.

Nathon

Yeah, if you hand edit the bulleted list, your changes will not be added to the XML File that is used by the wizard.
