Installation Fails > Can't update menus

I wanted to install the latest version 1.18 on mac os x 10.6.3 and the installation fails with the error message "Can't update menus. The extension can not be installed" in Extension Manager.

How can this be changed? What is causing this? Has this software not been tested with mac os x?

I did not even touch dreamweaver.. I am talking about the Extension Manager.

How are you using the extensions if you are not using Dreamweaver? Where is Extension Manager installing the extensions?

Did you even look at the section?

How about the part called "Can't update menus. The extension can not be installed" error?

Maybe this would help:

WA support will be back on Monday so you can ask them then. I'm just a volunteer.

Yes I did look at the link you posted. I've also deleted the cache file some times before when having issues with the WA extensions. The error I am getting now happens before entering dreamweaver. It happens at the installation state. Dreamweaver is shut down when I install the new extension.

I do not see any part that is relevant to the error message I am getting.

I assume that I am not the first, nor the only or last person having this problem. That's why I posted here - maybe somebody had exactly the same problem with this new version on a mac.

I will contact support on monday if the issue still exists. Thank you.

Step 2 is not about the cache file.

This is the relevant part in step 2:

"The error message "Menu cannot be updated, the extension cannot be installed" is caused by a bug in Dreamweaver where the menu.xml file can sometimes become corrupted. Performing this step should clear the error."

Ah, I see it now.
This is ridiculous though!! I have to uninstall ALL extensions and re-install them? I really can't think of anything better to do with my time... *sigh*

What I wonder though is; that the page states it is "Dreamweavers fault" - I was able to install another WA extension afterwards. What sense does that make? Either the config file is corrupted and affects all extensions that one wants to install - or it's not the config file but the extensions "fault".

Adobe controls The Extension Manger, Adobe controls Dreamweaver, Adobe controls the configuration process. Why don't you tell them that one piece of corruption in the folder should stop everything? They must not be doing a good job corrupting the folder if it's not complete corruption.

Why not ask them why it allows the extension to work just fine on other computers and not yours. They really should be able to spread the problems you have, to everyone else's systems too. Be sure your explain to them how valuable your time is and you should be exempt from the problems everyone else is has with their products.

BTW most of the troubleshooting tips came from Adobe themselves because they are common problems. I just collected them in one place to make it easier for people. Sorry you found them ridiculous.

Dude, maybe you should relax and read my post again. I think the PROCESS of removing every extension and re-installing again is ridiculous. Other extensions are fine, they work, they can be uninstalled and installed again without ANY problems. So the conclusion that it has to do with just THIS extension is close.

Is there a way to get an old version of the extension? Maybe that one works.
I don't see an option for that it in the download area, only interesting release notes.

One side note: If you are an official or semi-official person from WA you should definitely work on the tone of voice of your posts.

I'm just a volunteer trying to help people while the WA guys are away.

Your sarcastic responses to my efforts are the cause of my tone. Even though you demonstrated a lack of knowledge of the connection between Extension Manager and Dreamweaver, you are quick to criticize proven methods of solving problems.

Some people appreciate free help, others don't - that's life. But that doesn't mean I don't have the right to express what I think of it.

Good luck with your efforts.
