Date Range Search using ASP & SQL

I have a SQL database that I cannot modify but need to seach against. The date feild is a datetime with the dates formated as 9/1/2001 12:00:00 am. I set up a search page in datassist but no matter how I enter the dates it returns all records. Is there a way to fix this? I am not a programmer and know just enough to get myself in trouble. Any help would be greatly apprciated.
