Discount on specific item category

Discount on specific item category

I'm not getting this and feeling like a real idiot. Related posts have left me feeling even more confused than when I began.

In my database of products, each product is assigned a category type: 1, 2, 3 or 4.

I have added an "itemType" column in eCart and capture that data when an item is added to the cart.

I want to be able to offer a discount only on items of type 2 or type 3 and have the discount automagically expire on a future date.

I get the future date in the Discount section but I don't get how to just discount type 2 or type 3 items only.

In the triggers section add the trigger "Number of items with a specific column value":
If the number of items where [itemType] has a value of [1] is [>] a value of [0]

and in the calculations section use "based on items with a specific value":
total of [Totalprice] Where [itemType] has a value of [1]] [times] [0.10]

for a 10% discount on all items with an item type of 1.

Jason,

It works!!
That was a great example!
Thank you so much!!

Is there any way to specify a range of numeric itemType category like > 2 or similar so as not to have to specify one for each itemType?

Thanks,
David

No, you will need to create a separate rule for each category.
