My search query isn't working for one out of 3 criteria

I am using DataAssist Search Wizard to produce a search of data. It will be a much larger search but I am getting issues on my small test.

There are 3 tables in this short test - matters, legal and legalcategories.

Matters contains the fields legalid and state
Legal contains legalid and cat id
Legalcategories contains catid and cat (which is the name of the category).

I have produced a search of legal area, legal category and state. The first 2 work fine but the state one produces no results. I have no idea why. Can you help please?

Many thanks

It is probably an issue with the data type or one of the joins. You can use this on your page to write the final query:

<?php echo($query_rsResults); ?>

Then take that into phpMyAdmin to test further to see why it might not return a result if it doesn't become obvious.
