is this software the one i need? general help enquiry

Hi

i currently have an early version of supersuite and would like to upgrade but i am not being given an upgrade price from the store

i would like to build cms site which users can not only update info but can upload photos to the site, does webassist have software to do this if so is it this one belonging to this portion of the forum?
also can it insert photos used by itself into the pages generated by site assist, and where are these photos held? do i or how would i create a space on the server or database for them and how do they recognise which files they are associated with?

i would appreciate any help anyone can give
best wishes

Let me see if I can help you with identifying what each WA product does...

1. Digital File Pro : Provides full server upload/download capabilities of any file type to a developer defined server locations. (meaning that you design the upload page and you as the developer define the directory the files will be saved to) * I suppose you could also identify the upload directory dynamically, but that would probably require a bit of hand coding to accomplish this.

2. CMS : I purchased it, but I haven't used it yet. In general it should provide you with the ability to provide your clients the ability to manage their websites without the need for Dreamweaver and/or coding knowledge.

3. DataAssist : I think if you wanted to create your own CMS, since you own the Super Suite, you could do so using DataAssist and a MySQL table that held all of your website content. You'd just call up the content as dynamic elements on each page. The backend management could be created just as easily and secured using Security Assist.

I hope this helps.

If you are just wanting something to manage content that you can insert photos into, then PowerCMS is great.

If you want a full blown dynamic photo gallery where a user can create albums and then add photos to albums and give them names you will the big dogs like DataAssist, Digital File Pro, etc.

You can combine both to do great things. My site has PowerCMS combined with all the other tools.

If you can clarify with a few more specifics, some members here can probably offer even more specific/appropriate advice.

Cheers,

Brian

thanks guys

thanks loads for your replies guys its very welcomed.

i have just signed up for the monthly subscription package so i will have access to all the software i need so i guess the best i can do now is explain what i would like to do so if you had any advice it would be appreciated.

my friend has asked me to build a site for her real estste company. she wants potential customers to view the properties available to buy and other normal pages like contact us and about us etc. she would also like for the customer to be able to download or print directly some kind of pdf file on the property they like.

she also wants an admin section where she can insert update and delete property details from any machine, along with written info she wants to have photos uploaded from her camera/pc to be seen in the correct place in the site, she also wants to be able to show the customers some simple charts to demonstrate the energy effectiveness of the property (which apparently is compulsary in uk)

she doesnt want much does she :)

well so far i dug out my old supersuite brushed off the cobwebs and have tried to do what i can. i have learned basics with mysql and phpmyadmin so i can create the database (although i am not sure i am seperating the tables correctly but thats for another day)

i have tried some tests with the small info i entered with dreamweaver cs3 and have had some success woohoo, only the dataassist pages seem to link and none of the site assist pages seem to want to link with the data pages but at this moment in time i can at least view the insert update delete and results info i asked data assist to create.

so now that i have the subscription and the world is my oyster can you let me know if you think i am going about this the right way, am i using the correct software what would you recomend and also of the software we have mentioned can they all work well together

sorry for the long reply

i appreciate any comments or suggestions you have

best wishes

I would suggest to get familiar with each of the products and what the capabilities each one has before trying to integrate the functionality together. If you go through some of the tutorials and solution recipes located in the support section and download center of www.webassist.com this should help you get an idea of which products you will need to work with to complete your site.
