Validating even when selected to not validate

I have created a form using FB. In the Wizard found the area (Edit Group Contents) that allows me to select (or not select) that a field is required.

I have fields that I do not want to be required so have unchecked the box, however the page still wants me to complete the field and an error message is displayed.

How can I chose to not have validation on a field in a form whilst creating it?

It seems to be only the datepicker that is ignoring the box being unchecked

The date picker will get date time server validation applied to it. To make it so that it is not required, go to the Server Behaviors panel and double click the Server Validation server behavior.

In the list of validations, select the date time validation that is applied to the date picker form element and click the update button. Select the Allow Blank Entry option.

Thanks Jason

In the end I deleted all validation from the page and will add my own again afterwards.

I thought it was the Spry validation that was causing me problems, but obviously not.
