Submitting to mysql, quotes aren't showing up with addslashes, now they are " and screwing up things

HI, I used andMySqli for a couple years.
I just upgrade to the Data Assitst and now when I normally would have submitted a string to the database that had quotes it would addslashes to the string if quotes were there. Now it puts in in as " and this isn't good for me.
Is this something that can be fixed?

Actually. It looks to saving to the DB correctly, it looks like when I am pulling the Record from the db that it is converting " into "
This isn't good for me, as I use this with json fields I save and its broken now. When I go to use json_decode it doesn't recognize it.

It encodes when displaying for cross site scripting protection with ->getColumnVal("column") you can tell it not to by manually adding the "false" argument like:

->getColumnVal("column",false);
