ECart add options to cart

I have a system set up for a client it is a car chauffeur company, after the client chooses what car to travel in which is just an add to cart button, they are directed to an options page. The options page allows them to enter a name, reference number, etc.. I am using form persist to carry these options to the checkout page, I would like to have these options added to the cart instead. I am familiar with the options with Ecart and adding additional options from the page with add to cart button. However, how would i add these options to the cart on the options page? should I use an update cart?

You could add them as separate items, or add them from the persistent form like you do now. You could also add to cart on both pages and use the same ID and use the "replace" if exists option on the second page.

Will the cart only ever have one item?

no they can have multiple items (or in this case trips). 1. So user enters origin, destination, travel date , travel time from home page. there redirected to product.php, they can then select what car to travel in and add that product (trip) to cart, I already am adding the origin, destination, time, date to cart no problem from the products.php page. 3. I then redirect after add to cart to options.php, there they select airline, ref numbers, pickup name etc... I just want to add this additional info in the cart for there item. i need it specific to the product they just selected because they have the option later on to book round trips which is another product in there cart. also all these columns for the options (name, airline,etc) are created in the Ecart objects panel.

You would probably need to use the persistent form and re-add all of the columns to the cart along with the new ones and replace the existing row. You could do it other ways but it would require hand coding. If you get stuck, this is something we could help with in a premier support ticket.
