Try to set up a database connection in Dreamweave CS6

Running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit...

Downloaded and installed MySQL...

Created a database....

Tried to set up the connection in Dreamweaver CS6....no luck...

does this have to be set up as an ODBC?

thanks!

What is the error when you try to set up the connection? Usually it is a problem with the testing server settings. Either the testing server url or folder. I might be able to narrow it down more if you gave more details besides "no luck".... what exactly happens? What have you tried?

Ray - you may be correct that the testing server I set up is not correct - when I set up a test php page in this new site and try to view it (using F12) I get the error messafe:

"HTTP Error 404.3 - Not Found"
"The page you are requesting cannot be served because of the extension configuration. If the page is a script, add a handler. If the file should be downloaded, add a MIME map."

The url that show in the address bar is "http://localhost/LD%20Project%20-%20New/Untitled-2.php" (my site name is LD Project - New)

Here is how I defined the site in Dreamweaver CS6:

Site Name: LD Project - New
Local Site Folder: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\LD Project - New\

Testing Server Basic Tab:
Server Name: LD Project - New
Connect Using: Local/Network
Server Folder: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\LD Project - New\
Web URL: http://localhost/LD Project - New/

Testing Server Advanced Tab:
Maintain synchronization information is checked
Server Model: PHP MySQL

I have not defined a remote server....

In Dreamweaver I attempted to set up a Dynamic MySQL database connection as follows:

Connection name: ldorders
MySQL server: localhost
User name: rdubill
Password: my password (entered my real one)
Database: ld_orders (the database I defined using MySQL Workbench 6.3 CE)

When I click on test I get the error message:

HTTP Error Code 405 Method Not Allowed

I get the same error message if I leave the database field blank and click on Select.

Suggestions???

Thanks in advance...

What is the correct URL to view the page on your local server. We need to establish that.

You say the url you entered doesn't work. That is the problem. I'm not sure what URL would work, so I don't know what you need to change it to. Perhaps you local server isn't installed properly. Maybe the dash in the folder name is causing problems.

Don't worry about anything else until you have a url that works in your browser for viewing pages you created on your site. Until that is fixed it definitely won't work.

I am using IIS - could that be a problem with PHP/MySQL?

You can install php and mysql on an IIS server. So that alone is not the problem as long as it is properly configured. Can you browse to a .html page in that directory?

that is interesting...yes - I created an html page and was able to browse to it...

Do I have MySQL set up incorrectly?

What url did you use to browse it?

Ok if you name that same page Untitled-2.php can you browse it with the url:
http://localhost/LD%20Project%20-%20New/Untitled-2.php

OK - found the problem with not being able to display a php page on my local server....looks like php did not install correctly - I reinstalled it and now I can display it in the browser...

I then tried to connect to my database in Dreamweaver - and it worked!

Thanks for sticking with me!
