How to configure a DataAssist search to include pdf files

I have a product based site that features technical data sheet pdf's for each product. I would like to set up the search to include the pdf files. Is this possible if the pdf features editable text (not a scan)?

I think you can set up a google search and google will include linked pdf content. We have a google search option in our Free Tools extension.

Will this require an additional search field, or can the Google function be applied to the WA search field?

Will the added Google functionality search only the site, or outside the site as well? Not sure outside the site is desirable.

It is a separate search. You would probably need to replace your current search. You can set it up to only search your site and not return results from other sites. It is what we use on the webassist site.
