I am getting connection errors when I try to setup an area on a page with Power CMS.

When I define the connection in the wizard and test it I get this message:Errors encountered when connecting to your database. Then: Access denied. The file may not exist or there could be a permission problem. I have written a small script that simply connects to the DB in question and can connect that way with no problems. I have checked the server definition in DW for this site and it is correct and is set for testing.

This could be another issue with your testing server in your site definition. If you send me a private attachment with your site I can try connecting to it and diagnose the issue.

I need the FTP information. This looks like the database connection information that you have provided.

Your test page has a different password than your connection file. When I update the connection to match the test page the connection works properly in Dreamweaver.

Let me make sure I understand what happened.

Do the DB password and the FTP password need to be the same?

No the FTP password is completely separate from the DB.

Your test file that worked had the password correct obviously, but the connection file had a typo I think.
