Free Paypal Checkout and Need Custom Feild Acknowledgement

Im creating sort of a consignment checkout meaning you can sell your used iphone for example,
we are using the free version of paypal checkout.

Is there a way upon successful checkout/payment that I can insert a record into the db like an integer value
that would represent that the item is sold?

You can do that on the IPN page. Just log into the merchant paypal account and turn on IPN and specify the IPN page url. Then paypal will post to that page whenever an item is sold and you can insert a record into the database based on the posted values.

This is something we can help with in a premier support ticket.
