Menu with Recordset

I'm using DataAssist to create some insert/update pages and have a database field for US states I want to turn into a menu. I have a database table for it and even created a recordset for use with it. Yet, when I go to use it, clicking the dynamic lightning bolt yields the correct dialog box but the options are grayed out and the help button points to a broken page. I have completely done a fresh install of DW CC 2015 and fresh installs of WA extensions including DB 1.2.3 in an attempt to fix this, so it might just be this build of the extension -- screenshot attached; help link (page not found) is: ~user/Library/Application%20Support/Adobe/Dreamweaver%20CC%202015/en_US/Configuration/Shared/WebAssist/DataAssist/Help/dataassist_wizard_manage_pages_form_validation_field_settings_dynamic_menu.html

Dynamic options will only be available if you are on a .php page and have a standard database connection defined. It doesn't work with MySQLi connections at this point.

So just curious as to what you think best practices are in conjunction with the WA roadmap of future releases... if using this extension, should everything go with a standard connection or should there be 2 (using MySQLi whenever possible in anticipation of removing the standard connection at some point)?

I would use MySQLi as much as possible and only use MySQL when necessary. That will make your future updates to all MySQL less complex because some of it will already be done.
