email confirmation not working since PHP upgrade 4 to 5.3

Not sure if this is the problem or not but it seems to be related to my hosting company upgrading PHP from 4 to 5.3 on our server. but our confirmation emails are not getting sent anymore. We have an older ver of eCart from around 2010. Not sure how to find version either. Any help would be great.

Create a blank page with code like this:

php:
<?php

$to
'nobody@example.com';
$subject 'the subject';
$message 'hello';
$headers 'From: webmaster@example.com' "\r\n" .

'Reply-To: webmaster@example.com' "\r\n" .

'X-Mailer: PHP/' phpversion();

mail($to$subject$message$headers);
?>

If that doesn't work, show it to your hosting provider and tell them that php mail() isn't properly configured.

If it does work, then post back and we will have to look into your receipt email pages for the issue.

You can find latest version on internet for eCart where you easily update. If you feel that this is related to your hosting company upgrading PHP from 4 to 5.3 you should inquire to your company.
