querystring product pages vs unique URLs? ...and how?

querystring product pages vs unique URLs? ...and how?

We have a dynamic product page:
www.ledwarehouseuk.com/LED-Lights-Bulbs.php?lbid=587

If the lbid changes then the product that's displayed changes.
I note on a lot of websites that rather than have that they have unique URL's such as www.ledwarehouseuk.com/LED-Lights-Bulbs/LED-GU10-Light-Blub/

We're having a problem with Facebook not scraping this website correctly, in particular the product page detailed above, and I wondered if it was to do with this?

How do you set up unique URL's like this though? We don't want to have to create unique pages for EVERY product however if that is a better course of action, from an SEO point of view, then we'd consider it.

Would appreciate your advice.
Thank you.

This is done using .htaccess and mod_rewrite to convert the SEO Friendly URL into a dynamic one

the concept is to have a perm link column in your database that stores the SEO friendly page name. Per your example:
LED-GU10-Light-Blub

the create a mod rewrite rule that converts:
LED-Lights-Bulbs/LED-GU10-Light-Blub/

to:
LED-Lights-Bulbs.php?Permalink=LED-GU10-Light-Blub

then you would edit the recordset so that rather than filtering the ID column on the lbid URL variable, it would filter the Permalink column on the Permalink URL variable.

There are many examples that can be found through google that talk about how to accomplish this, If you would like us to help you, we can help implement this in premiere support. Should be able to get it sorted in about an hour, but it may take longer.
