Tracking Abandoned Cart items

Has anyone added abandoned cart tracking to their eCart website? My client wants to track what customers are interested in but don't end up buying. Curious how one might customize eCart to enable this functionality?

This is going to problematic to implement. You would need to add code to store the cart contents in a database when the browser is closed. or when the user leaves your site.

there is some discussion on how to interact with the database on browser close here:

But it can be difficult to determine when the visitor leaves your site.
