Adding a discount via coupon code

I want to add a discount to the checkout process. For instance...a customer enters a discount code in a text field and a prescribed discount is applied to the purchase. How do I configure the cart for this? thanks

Adding a discount via coupon code

Hi Jamie, thanks for the response. I checked the forum link and it started with this statement:
First off, you should follow the solution recipe for static coupon codes to get coupon codes working. That tutorial can be found In the Solution Recipes section of the eCart Support Page titled "Creating a Coupon system for your eCart store":

Unfortunately, I can not find the Solution Recipe for creating a coupon system after going through all the tutorials. Can you please provide me a link to that specific recipe?
Thanks,
David

If you scroll to the bottom of that same thread Jason has posted a link to a odd of that content.

You can find the old PDF here:

we are currently in the middle of redoing the tutorial.

Jason,
Thanks for the link to the pdf. I followed the well written tutorial and created the discount rule for my cart page. Then I uploaded the files and voila...my store is now completely gone. No error messages, no page not found...just a white blank page. Any ideas as to what might have happened?

a blank page means that a php error is occurring but error reporting is turned off.

to turn error reporting on, add the following code at line 1:

<?php
error_reporting(E_ALL);
ini_set('display_errors','on');
?>

once we know what the error is, we will be able to troubleshoot the cause.

Thanks so much for providing the php code. I wasn't aware of the code for error reporting.
After entering the code I was able to find the syntax error that was causing my problem. Thanks so much for your assistance.
