Progress bar not working when submiting form via script

Trying to make things a bit user friendly, I tried to submit a form automatically after change of a form element by
using a script similar to this:

document.getElementById('ID').submit();

so far the form submits and works fine except that the progress bar never shows.
Though the same form submitting via button works great and shows the progress bar.

Anyone has any hint where I could be struggling ?

calling submit through javascript like this will bypass the onsubmit functions that are used to show the progress bar or do validation.

your form should have a submit button on it, then you could use:

WADFP_jQuery('#submitbuttonID').trigger('click')

to trigger the submit button click event to submit the form which would then act as if the user clicked the button and trigger the progress bar.
