Two or more merchant IDs

Two or more merchant IDs

Hi Guys, I have been asked to build a website to sell items for many artists, each with their own PayPal account. Is it possible to setup the cart to only accept items from one artist at a time, checking out to their own PayPal account.

I was thinking that the first item added to the cart could set a session with the value of the merchant Id. I could possibly use this session to block items with a different merchant ID. Clearing the cart would also clear the session.

Does this sound like madness? Also would it be possible to use the session for the checkout process?

Many thanks

Jon

I would set up a subdomain and cart for each artist.

using the session approach you mention would just cause a layer of complexity that is not needed.

Hi Jason, client is keen to use www.domain.com/artist

Is there any technical reason to stop us using folders over sub domains.

I am planning to create 6 separate ecart instances, one for each artist.

Thanks Jason

As long as each folder uses a unique cart instance, that _should_ work ok, but it would really be better to use sub domains instead, as that would remove any possibility for session cross over. sessions are unique to the domain, so using subfolders there would be a possibility for using the same session name in the different stores.

using a subdomain would prevent this possibility since the sessions would be unique for each subdomain. even if you used the same session name in 2 of the stores, it would not be visible cross the subdomains.
