Using own domain for shop...

I was trying to figure out how to work with having a domain (or in this case, a subdomain) that I already own be where the cafecommerce shop exists.
However, I kept running into issues with being told it was already being used for something.... and I wasn't sure whether to secure it on the dreamhost side or not.
Please advise?

In your Dreamhost control panel, you can free the subdomain for use with cafe commerce. If you need help with that, you should contact Dreamhost support, they will be able to walk you through the steps.

So, everything has to be done through cafecommerce? SSL, etc...?
